25 Reasons You Should Be Blogging

Have you thought about starting a blog but can’t seem to motivate yourself to get started?

If you have ever questioned if your business should have a blog, stop what you are doing and read this comprehensive list!

*** Spoiler alert – as a business owner, you NEED a blog!

HERE ARE 25 REASONS YOU SHOULD BE BLOGGING

1. It increases your search engine optimization (SEO).

Did you know that every time you post a blog that you’ve written, it’s another chance for someone to visit your page via search engine? When you blog, it alerts search engines, like Google, that your website is current and active. Research shows that businesses that blog get 55% more traffic and generate 4 times as many leads! (source: Hubspot)

2. It drives traffic from social media.

Website and Social Media platforms can have a harmonious exchange! When you blog, you can post your blog on your social media platforms and drive traffic to your website. That’s a double win!

3. If you have a good Call to Action, it can be an incredible lead generator.

When you add a lead-generating call to action on your blog post, it can be a great way to get contact information. These calls to action typically lead to content that the reader is getting for free (e-books, webinars, how-to’s, etc.). This free content gives an incentive for the reader to exchange information.

4. It puts you in the “driver’s seat” when it comes to your online reputation.

Social Media platforms, like Facebook and Twitter, are great for certain things, but you don’t always have direct control over features and content of your profiles. With blogging, you are in the “driver’s seat” of your online reputation! You can also respond to current events and criticisms of your business more extensively than you can on a different social media platform.

5. It is easy!

It is not difficult to blog! You don’t have to write a brand new post every time. You can also post content to your blog that you’re producing in other outlets (YouTube, Instagram, Pinterest). You can post podcasts, videos and free material that you’re offering through your business as well.

6. It establishes you as an authority in your field.

When you’re continuously creating content that your target customer feels benefits them, you become an authority in their minds. This is a great asset for you, particularly if you’re offering something in your business that can serve or benefit them.

7. Giving good advice drives traffic more than just selling your services.

When you are giving away good advice, it intrigues and attracts an audience! This is extremely beneficial to you because you may eventually be able to convert this audience into customers, colleagues, and friends!

8. It builds trust.

According to SeoTriBunal, 81% of U.S. online consumers trust information and advice from blogs. The more that potential clients see you offering valuable advice and information, the more they will trust you as a person. When you create trust in consumer relationship, the consumer is more likely to buy from you.

9. Blogging can “Warm Up” your future outreaches.

When others have read, or heard about your blog, they may be more receptive to doing business with you. It gives you an avenue to reach out to potential customers that you haven’t had a connection within the past.

10. It forces you to be a constant learner.

Blogging challenges you to reach out and educate yourself when you aren’t sure how to make your point! With certain blog posts, you may have to learn a little more about a topic you’re writing about. Writing forces you to organize the thoughts in your mind that you have only internalized in the past. You become more familiar with the topic that you’re writing about, as well as how to communicate it effectively.

11. It causes you to reflect on your biz, and pinpoint areas of improvement.

When your thoughts are documented over time, you may be able to look back and pinpoint areas in which you’ve improved. At times, you may have a viewpoint that changes as you progress and your business evolves. It can be interesting and enlightening to reflect on these improvements.

12. It improves your writing skills.

When you write on a continuous basis, your writing skills will be improved!

13. It builds your confidence.

Blogging is a great way to build your confidence! You can shape your strengths and sharpen the areas that are weaknesses. When you’re blogging, you are getting constant feedback from readers and this helps you to be able to deal with flattery as well as criticisms. Blogging also helps you to share your opinions confidently, move forward in confidence and face your fears of articulating something in the wrong way.

14. It gives you more content for your “pitch”.

We all have a pitch for our business, right? Blogging helps to give you more content for your pitch! It gives you more discussion points and more ways to bring up topics relevant to your business.

15. It helps you aid worthy causes.

Whether you’re supporting bringing clean water to third world countries, helping a nonprofit organization, or supporting a struggling family that you are acquainted with, blogging can give you an avenue to aid worthy causes that you are enthusiastic about! My husband, Rob, and I have made a goal to donate 10% of the Virtual Savvy profits to worthy causes. Get creative for how you can be a giver!

16. It causes you to develop discipline.

Blogging helps you to develop the discipline of doing something consistently. No matter how you operate in your personal life, having a deadline and incentive to blog helps you to better yourself!

17. It helps you get published.

Are you an aspiring writer who has yet to be published? Blogging is a great way to develop readers and an audience! The easiest way in today’s world to get published is to build a great blog and develop an arsenal of devoted readers

18. It can replace your resume.

I have gotten job offers just from blogging and being active on social media! Seth Godin argues that “if you’re remarkable, amazing or just plain spectacular, you probably shouldn’t have a resume at all.” He says a sophisticated project or an insightful blog can sell you better than a resume. A blog can make your resume stand out in a sea of resumes.

19. It is FREE marketing (once your website domain and website have been purchased).

Of course, you have to purchase your website and the website domain, but after that is done – it’s completely free! Who doesn’t love marketing that’s free?!

20. It gives you insight into your audience.

When you are able to access your blog analytics, you can track readers, shares, and comments and see which blogs are most popular. This allows you to see what your readers like and even which day of the week they are most likely to visit your blog.

21. It allows an opportunity to show off your personality.

People like doing business with other people that they feel they can relate to! Your blog allows an opportunity to show off your personality and the personality of your brand. You earn others’ trust this way and make it so that they’re more apt to do business with you

22. Blogging gives you a “leg up” on the competition.

Blogging gives you a competitive advantage over the competition! It gives you authority and credibility in your field, better search rankings and a unique personality.

23. It causes you to provide better customer service.

Today’s consumers desire conversation with businesses! They don’t appreciate it when their voice is not heard. Blogging gives customers a way to communicate with you in a two-way conversation and it gives them the opportunity to provide feedback.

24. It creates free PR.

Businesses who blog frequently are often interviewed by journalists as authorities in their field. Who doesn’t love free PR!!

25. It helps you stay “in the know”.

Blogging forces you to stay “in the know” about current topics that are relevant to your business and competition. This helps you to be a leader in your area of business. Starting a blog can be one of the greatest and most cost-effective virtual marketing tactics.
