How to Find Data Entry Work From Home Jobs
In 2015, I was eight months pregnant, chasing a toddler around the house, and desperately Googling work-from-home jobs, specifically data entry work from home jobs.
Joining an MLM sounded like a nightmare. I didn’t have the time (or energy) for a side hustle that required a bunch of training or certifications. Really, I just needed something simple and flexible.
That’s when someone mentioned becoming a virtual assistant.
I didn’t understand what that meant—but when I saw that people were getting paid to handle basic tasks like entering info into spreadsheets, answering emails, and managing calendars, I couldn’t believe it. I was hooked.
Turns out, data entry work-from-home jobs were a perfect starting point. I didn’t need special software or a fancy resume—just my existing skills and a willingness to show up. My very first gig? A massage therapist handed me a box of client cards and asked me to organize them into Excel. A few weeks later, I was inputting messy PDFs for a plant shop owner. It wasn’t glamorous—but it was flexible, legit work-from-home income.
If you’re wondering how to find data entry work-from-home jobs yourself, this post breaks down the exact 4 steps I took to get started. These are the same steps that helped me go from zero clients to a full-time income (and eventually way more).
Let’s get into it.
Step 1: Decide to Start (Yes, Really!)
The very first step to finding data entry work from home jobs is super simple… but it’s the one most people skip:
👉 You have to decide to start.
I know it sounds basic, but hear me out. You don’t need a fancy website. You don’t need 1,000 business cards or some expensive branding package. You don’t even need to know everything yet. You just need to say, “I’m doing this.”
Starting small is totally okay. In fact, I recommend it! Choose a simple business name (help with that here!). Make a quick logo in Canva (help with that here!) or grab one off Etsy. Use the skills you already have—like typing, organizing info, or working with spreadsheets—and start looking for beginner-friendly data entry work from home jobs that match those strengths.
You don’t need it to be perfect. You just need to start.
Step 2: Set Your Pricing (No, You Don’t Need to Work for Free)
Once you’ve decided to go for it, the next step to landing data entry work from home jobs is to set up your pricing.
Here’s the good news: you don’t need to overthink this. For data entry and other beginner virtual assistant tasks, I highly recommend starting with an hourly rate. Most of the students in my SavvySystem course start around $25–$35 per hour—and yes, clients really do pay that! 🙌
As you gain experience and start offering more advanced services (like Pinterest management, email marketing, or even blogging), you can raise your rates or switch to package-based pricing. But when you’re just getting started with data entry work from home jobs, an hourly rate is the simplest and most effective way to go.
One easy way to present your services? Offer a monthly package of hours, like 10, 20, or 40 hours a month. That gives clients a clear expectation, and it helps you plan your time. Even one client at 10 hours a week can bring in solid income, especially at $30 an hour!

Start simple, price confidently, and grow as you go.
Step 3: Tell People What You’re Doing (Even If It Feels Awkward)
You don’t need a huge marketing plan to get started with data entry work from home jobs, but you do need to let people know what you’re up to.
I always tell new VAs to start by sharing their business with friends and family. Now, they might not need your data entry services themselves… but they know people. And they love you. Which means they’ll be your biggest cheerleaders when someone they meet needs help with admin tasks or office work.
You’d be surprised how often this happens! Someone mentions they’re behind on invoices, or they can’t keep up with spreadsheets, and your friend pipes up, “Hey, I know someone who does that!”
So don’t wait until everything’s “perfect” to start talking about your new venture. Post on social media. Send a few texts. Let people know you’re officially offering data entry work from home jobs—and that you’re available to help. The sooner you start the conversation, the sooner opportunities can start rolling in.

Step 4: Find Your People (Because You Shouldn’t Do This Alone)
Starting something new—like offering data entry work from home jobs—can feel overwhelming if you try to figure it all out by yourself. Trust me, I tried doing it alone in the beginning, and it was way harder than it needed to be.
The truth is, entrepreneurship isn’t meant to be a solo sport. Having a community makes all the difference. I personally wouldn’t have been able to grow my business (or stay sane) without people cheering me on, answering questions, and sharing real job leads along the way.
If you’re not already plugged in somewhere, I’d love to invite you to join our free Facebook group for virtual assistants, The VA Savvies!
